The old La Palma

Passing the forest of the dragon's trees you reach a scenery with cliffs and you will find small little villages between the green hills. About "Barranco del Gallegos" we are reaching a place where it seems, that his inhabitants are not living in the past.

Teneguia tour:
From the crater “San Antonio”, we cross the still volcanically active area of the island La Palma. The volcano "Teneguia" (the last outbreak in 1971), still produces warm gases. From here we explore impressive lava fields which appear like a lunar landscape. Later we are reaching the lighthouse of Fuencaliente.

The dream path – "el camino de Ensueños"
From "Las Tricias" we walk between exotic Fincas, to millennial dragon's trees and blossoming almond trees which remind us of the longest past paradise up to the caves "Cuevas de Buracas". The cave paintings are making the influence of other cultures clear.

"Los Manatiales"
By all-wheel vehicles and a runway we will reach an altitud of 1,400 metres, there we walk along an old canal. Besides, we pass twelve narrow tunnels. We carry helmets and lamps. We continue our way, until we reach "Los Manantiales" , which is in between a wonderful landscape.

On the top of the island:
This hike is bringing us down to the north flank of "Roque de los Muchachos". We get away to the vantage point and pass the mythical wall of "Roberto". Then we cross the observatories of the „Roque de los Muchachos" to enjoy during the whole way the impressive view of the huge crater of the "Caldera de Taburiente". Our route is ending on "Pico de La Cruz" (2.351 metres height)

The fairy tale wood:
By the laurel wood in "Barranco de Los Tilos" which was declared as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, we walk by a narrow gulch which leads us to the vantage point "Las Barandas". Now our way is descending and we are between cultured fruit and vegetable patios. Then we are passing an old sugarcane plantation, until we reach "San Andres", which certainly is the nicest village of the island in colonial style.

Along the "costa de los pescadores"
From “El Jesus” we are ascending to the edge of the impressive wall which surrounds the "Barranco de las Angustias". During the whole descent to "Puerto de Tazacorte" we are accompanied by a wonderful view of the "Caldera", "Valle de Aridane" or the vulcanoes. The old way is bringing us to "Puerto de Tazacorte".

The wild north
We are following the old “camino real” and we cross the valleys in the north untouched landscape, as well cultured zones of rural municipalities. Before we reach "El Tablado", a gulch of huge magnitude and spectacular vegetation is expecting us.

"Caldera de Taburiente"
Above a forest way we move in the direction of "Los Brecitos". We cross pine woods and old cultivation areas and are ascending to the "rio Taburiente" where we are surrounded by a marvellous panorama of the "Caldera". After a break we continue our descent direction "El Reventon" and pass "roque Idafe" till we reach the waterfall of the colours. From here we continue our excursion to the riverbed "Barranco de las Angustias", until we come out of the national park.

The volcano route
This hike begins in the “Refugio del Pilar” on 1,450 metres height. We follow the south flank and reach up to 2,000 metres height. Besides, we also cross the volcano „San Juan“ who has broken out the last time in the year 1949. From the crater "Las Deseadas", the highest point, we can look almost at the whole island, including the neighbouring islands Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro. During our descent we cross the volcano "Martin" (a very nice crater with different red colours) and the southern pine woods of "Fuencaliente" in the municipality "Los Canarios".

Or do you prefer to swim and to relax on the beach?

The saftest beach of the island is the beach of “Los Cancajos”, which is very close to our apartment complex.

The beach is distinguished with the blue flag and also disposes of a children's playground.

On the whole island La Palma you can find very nice, often also lonesome beaches.
